What this specialty covers.

Aesthetic dermatology uses a range of techniques to improve the appearance and quality of the skin and to treat certain skin imperfections. Treatments may involve laser, chemical peels, microneedling or other dermatological technologies.

Laser settings follow skin type: parameters suited to fair skin cause pigmentation marks on darker skin. The dermatologist therefore assesses your skin before choosing the device and the settings, and sometimes starts with a test patch. Protocols are counted in sessions weeks apart: a single session almost never settles the indication.

What patients ask us.

Yes, provided the right wavelength and settings are used: some lasers are contraindicated on higher skin types because of the risk of pigmentation marks. The dermatologist determines your skin type at consultation and adapts the protocol, sometimes after a test patch.

Four to eight for hair removal, several weeks apart; three to five for acne scars. That is incompatible with a single stay: the protocol is spread out, and part of it can continue at home. We say so beforehand, not afterwards.

It is not advisable on tanned skin: the risk of pigmentation marks rises. Sun exposure must be avoided before and after sessions, with high-factor protection. The dermatologist tells you what interval to respect after your last exposure.

For hair removal, the reduction is lasting but rarely total, with maintenance sessions. For pigmentation, marks can return if sun exposure resumes. Scar treatment improves the surface without erasing the scar completely.

Have your file read before you decide.

A doctor reviews it and tells you what is possible, what is not and what it involves. With no commitment on your part.
