What this specialty covers.

Rheumatology covers diseases of the joints, bones and musculoskeletal system, in particular inflammatory and degenerative conditions and certain autoimmune diseases.

Many patients arrive after years of pain labelled mechanical, when in fact an inflammatory disease has gone undiagnosed. The stay serves first to settle that question: history, blood tests and imaging can do so within a few days. Long-term treatment then continues with your own doctor, on the basis of the protocol you take home.

What patients ask us.

By the rhythm of the pain, first of all: osteoarthritis hurts on use and eases with rest, while inflammatory disease wakes you at night and comes with prolonged morning stiffness. Blood tests and imaging confirm it. That distinction changes the treatment entirely.

Sometimes, where the diagnosis is already made and the indication clear. Often it requires imaging first, or ultrasound guidance. The rheumatologist tells you at the consultation; we leave room in the schedule for it.

X-rays of the painful joints, MRI if it exists, blood results including rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP antibodies, CRP, and the list of treatments already tried with their duration and effect.

It can be started, with the work-up it requires. But it then needs regular blood monitoring: we give you the schedule of checks so that your own doctor can take over without a break.

Have your file read before you decide.

A doctor reviews it and tells you what is possible, what is not and what it involves. With no commitment on your part.
